Pipewellgate

Pipewellgate was a major part of early Gateshead and has been described as a separate township. If you stand looking across the river to Newcastle Pipewellgate, the road and also the name of the area stretches from, on the left of the High Level Bridge, a point not quite as far as the King Edward Railway Bridge so let's say the Metro Bridge to, on the right of the High Level Bridge, Bridge Street which is the Gateshead end of the Swing Bridge
